Events Detail
Yala Mandala cordially invites you to Displaced: an art exhibition by artist Sujan Dangol dedicated to the refugees in Nepal.
Over 21 million refugees live in the world today. A vast majority of them reside in developing nations. And most are unable to adjust to their new surroundings or secure sustenance. Their daily life and basic needs and wants become an instant burden. Life becomes unwanted but will almost never fade. The hope for a better future becomes stronger in face of challenges.
These series of drawings were created from observations made over months of interacting with urban refugees of Kathmandu. Referencing real images of refuge, the drawings use local patterns, landscapes, cityscape with dramatic twists to share their stories. In some, the recent earthquake has been depicted to draw a temporal parallel between those who lost their homes in the disaster and displaced refugee communities. On exhibition are the remaining drawings of the series which are on sale.
Proceeds will benefit a long-term project between the artist, associated partners, and the Rohingya refugees of Kathmandu Valley.
