500 Rs. for 4 days of workshop or 150 Rs. per day
February 28th – March 3rd, 10-4pm at Hariyo Chowk
2 Day Briquette Workshop
February 28th and March 1st, 10am – 4pm
Basic Outline of Workshop:
Briquette is another good source of alternative energy. You can use anything that is decomposable to make this; household organic waste or weeds, or dry leaves from your garden. It is a very good source for cooking, heating or insulating your house. By the end of this workshop you will know how to manage your waste and help to tackle the waste problem in Kathmandu. You will also walk away with 2 of your own hand made briquettes.
What is briquette?
It is a compressed block of bio mass (anything that can be decomposed)
So basically, it’s anything in your yard that comes from nature.
What is briquette used for?
Generally briquette is substitution for fire wood and other non-renewable energy. Its mostly used for cooking, heating and insulating purposes.
How is it sustainable?
Briquettes are made up of waste. Things like saw dust, used tea leaves, coffee grounds things that you’d normally throw away can be used in this.
Why is it beneficial?
As it replaces non-renewable fuel and fire wood it beneficial for environment as well as saves a lot of money. Briquettes can be use as insulator and sound proofing if you don’t want to use for fuel.
2 Day Recycled Roof Workshop
March 2nd and March 3rd, 10am – 4pm
Basic Outline:
Bottles are another waste management problem we face, especially in Kathmandu. Soda definitely tastes good but what we usually do with the bottle is create more waste. So in this workshop, we’ll actually put our waste to good use. Monsoon is coming soon and having a perfectly water proof roof will be awesome. In this workshop you will learn how to build it for yourself out of totally reused bottles which are cost effective and good for environment.
How does this work?
We will be using plastic bottles to make the water proof roof over our bar at Hariyo Chowk. The basic idea behind it is to cut the bottles in half and by using screws we will join them together in order to make it sealed properly.
Will this stay and hold during monsoon?
Using bottles as roofing material, especially in Kathmandu, is perfect because we don’t have windy weather and we donâ€t get snow fall in the valley. If sealed properly and securely, it will last for years.
How is it sustainable?
We are using completely used bottles which means, this roof is very sustainable. Otherwise the bottles would end up in the garbage, so we are putting our trash to good use.
Why is it beneficial?
First, this roof is very cost effective otherwise we’d be paying a huge amount of money for tin or plastic sheets. After this workshop, you’ll be able to install it yourself. Plastic bottles come in multiple colors so it has an artistic touch to it too
Note:
A each day of the workshop we will provide a light lunch from the garden and tea in the morning.
