Sustainable Urban Development Policies For 2015 and Beyond

Thursday, 8 Jan, 3PM, at the City Museum Kathmandu:
Nepal is the fastest urbanizing country in South Asia. As the new year begins, what are some of the Policy Actions lined up to ensure sustainable urban development? And what role do citizens have in the process? How do elected MPs balance their role between being a Constituent Assembly Member as well as Member of Parliament? We invite you to join MP Gagan Thapa for this interaction event.

MP Thapa is elected from Kathmandu-4, and is the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Energy, and Natural Resources. He also led the process to developing the 'Unified Kathmandu Development Vision" document endorsed by all the 15 elected MPs from Kathmandu, as well as the Prime Minister's Office, and reflected partially in the current budget. He is an active member of the Livable Kathmandu campaign and is currently engaging policy makers on how all the newly declared Municipalities could ensure that their development is as sustainable as possible.

REFERENCE READING:
On 31 December 2014, the Kathmandu Post daily published in its New Year Supplement an op-ed by MP Gagan Thapa, and City Museum Kathmandu's Director, Kashish Das Shrestha, on the policy directives and actions that should be taken in 2015 to deal with Kathmandu's air quality problem. The solutions proposed also would help Kathmandu deal with its energy crisis, groundwater recharge, as well as public health issues.
