PRESENTATION and INTERACTION of the Winning Designs of ICIMOD Annexe Building, Lalitpur.

BACKGROUND ABOUT THE DESIGN COMPETITION

An Architectural Design competition for the Annexe Building of ICIMOD was called for early this year as follows:

In an effort to encourage innovative solutions to meet the architectural requirements of its proposed annexe building in Khumaltar, Lalitpur, Nepal, the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) is inviting qualified and interested architects to submit their designs to an Architectural Design Competition. Submissions should be in accordance with the conditions and instructions outlined in these terms of reference. The potential and constraints of the building site offer a unique opportunity for architects to translate their vision of the proposed annexe building at the ICIMOD headquarters complex into a reality.
The objective of the competition is to explore and adopt innovative designs, energy-efficient technology, and cost-effective construction. The project shall be implemented accordingly.
All eligible Architects and Architectural Firms from all ICIMOD member countries – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan – are invited to participate in this competition.

Accordingly the Winning Entries were announced by the Director General of ICIMOD, David Molden, on 22 Oct 2013 as follows:
• First Prize: CE Services (Nepal)
• Second Prize: Design Consultants P. Ltd. & Design, (Nepal)
• Third Prize: Tie between Prabal Thapa Architects (Nepal) and Kailash Pradhan Consultants (Sikkim)

In this regard, BLUE COFFEE-Events & Exhibitions is organizing a presentation program, followed by an interaction, by these winners of the Design Competition along with their designs display held recently for the ICIMOD Annexe Building at Lalitpur.
