Michael Gaumnitz approches the Great War through the soldiers' mail sent to the front line. With archive footage and reconstructed scenes with professional actors, he gives a unique and exciting approach of this event. These letters are an inexhaustible source from which we can understand the moral of the troops. The juxtaposition of French and German letters abolishes borders in the unity of a common destiny. The unimaginable goes alongside inhumanity of the trench warfare. A quite unknown fact happened : in December 1914, German, English and French soldiers went out of the trenches and fraternized with the enemy, creating a huge stir in their respective military staffs ...
