Medieval Candle Making Workshop with Mike Metzger

Course Detail:
Medieval candle making workshop will help participants to craft their own paraffin candles from scratch. You will learn about local plants which can be used to actually make your own candle wick and ways of processing these plants. You will also learn 2 candle designs on being a Dip Method and the other using sand. After our candles have cooled and have cured we will then begin the 2nd half of our day sculpting and forming our own candle holders using left over paper, string and glue. Candle holder designs will be made dependent upon the imagination of the fairy’s and goblins who attend this course. Basic candle-holder structures and principles’ will be included.

- Home-made paraffin candles.
- Home-made candle-holders.

Learning Outcome:
Participants will receive a strong foundation of how the process of candle-making works. They will have a confidence in candle-making that will stay with them for the rest of their lives and they will also be struck by a powerful creativeness with allows them to think of may ways they can create and make their own candle-holders from very basic and primitive materials.

About the Instructor:
Mike Metzger is a US born arts and crafts teacher both practicing and teaching traditional earth skills for over 10 years time. His skills range from basket-weaving to hide-tanning to pottery to black-smithing to wood carving and more.

Prior Learning/Who is it for?:
No experience necessary, this class is geared towards broom-flying Witches, Nature Lovers, Genies, Artists and those who posses flying carpets and to the rest of the Kathmandu boys and girls without any superpowers.
