KNOW YOUR HERITAGE - 3  Bandipur: Preserving Architectural Heritage through Tourism

Bandipur prospered in the early 20th century as a trading post on the India and Tibet trade route. Although the early settlers in Bandipur were Magars and Bahuns, the Newars from Bhaktapur brought in masons, carpenters and craftsmen from their hometown to construct the beautiful houses that line the main bazaar today and give the town a distinct character. The eradication of malaria in the Terai, construction of Prithvi highway that bypassed this town, relocation of district headquarters to Damauli and the subsequent migration of the businesses from Bandipur saw this town lose its prominence. However, strong ties of the locals preserved the architectural heritage, which is being restored and promoted through a new industry – tourism. Today, Bandipur is a popular tourist destination and prospering again; the architectural heritage from its glory days is the main attraction of this hilltop town.

Thus, with an objective to raise awareness about the importance of preservation of our heritage sites, Blue Coffee, along with Ar. Jharna Joshi, invites you to join us on an exclusive architectural trip to Bandipur to witness the beauty of this mountain town.This exclusive visit will be on 7th and 8th of Dec' 2013 (2 days & 1 night)
