I cycle for "Better Health" (WORLD HEALTH DAY 2013)

On the eve of World Health Day 2013, Kathmandu Cycle City 2020 , Cycle City Network Nepal is organizing a Bicycle rally, advocating for better health.In collaboration with Collaborative partners so far for Ministry of Health, Department of Health and Services ,Nepal Dental Association, Nepal Medical Association.

This is a rally that encircles all cyclists in a theme; “I CYCLE FOR BETTER HEALTH.â€


Rally Starts : 7 AM at Department of Health Services,Teku .
Rally Ends :9 AM at Basantapur Durbasqauare

Date ;06th April,2013, Saturday

There will be free Blood Pressure Check-up, stall and cyclist will be provided with a Health/Safety Souvenir ,from the Collaborative partners so far for Ministry of Health, Nepal Dental Association, Nepal Medical Association.

This is awareness program created by Kathmandu Cycle City 2020, Cycle City Network Nepal. This group is formed by a network of cycle promoters who has taken their responsibility to promote cycling in feasible cities to decrease Carbon Footprint(Emission of carbon) of Nepal, and help by participating in the global fight of Climate Change. We aim to force better government policies to make cycling a better experience by doing regular follow up and series of events regularly. We plan to do research and analysis where needed.

World Health Day is celebrated on 7 April to mark the anniversary of the founding of WHO in 1948. Each year a theme is selected for World Health Day that highlights a priority area of public health concern in the world.

The theme for 2013 is high blood pressure.

The risk of developing high blood pressure can be reduced by:

1. Regular Exercise such as Cycling;
2. Maintaining Healthy Body Weight;
3. Reducing salt intake;
4. Eating a balanced diet;
5. Avoiding harmful use of alcohol; and
6. Avoiding tobacco use.

It has been revealed that Prevalence of hypertension in Nepalese community has tripled in 25 years in a repeat cross-sectional study in rural Kathmandu. We must act now, or it will be too late....
