Himalayan Whitewater Festival

The Himalayan White Water Festival (HWWF) is a 4-day international showcase of whitewater sports, featuring a series of rafting and kayaking competitions and events. This annual festival attracts both local and international participants, from novices to professionals, as well as scores of spectators from a variety adventure-sports backgrounds. This year will be the 4th annual HWWF. To the best of our knowledge this is the largest whitewater and adventure-sports festival in Asia.

Although the river has traditionally been the centrepiece of this festival, our main objective is to gather outdoor enthusiasts from all over the world for a celebration of adventure sport, multi-culturalism, and unity. Spectators, competitors, and participants of all ages, nationalities, and backgrounds are invited to attend the four days of festivities at the river’s edge. Everyone in attendance gets to choose their level of involvement in festival activities, and their presence alone is a welcome contribution to the spirit of this event.

WHAT, WHEN & WHERE?
The festival is held on the last weekend of November each year on the Trishuli River at Fishling Bazaar, set to a backdrop of the central Nepal Himalaya. Among a host of events, competitions include kayak slalom, kayak freestyle, boatercross, down-river races, and rafting championships.


BEHIND THE SCENES
We are a group of enthusiastic and dedicated Nepalese kayakers and professional river guides whose collective efforts have created the Nepal Kayak Club. The HWWF was started by members of the Nepal Kayak Club to help provide opportunity and support to a new generation of Nepalese kayakers. Traditionally, up-and-coming Nepalese paddlers show great potential and natural talent, but lack the equipment, training, and guidance needed to make it to professional and world-class levels. Through the Nepal Kayak Club and the HWWF we aim to help them reach their full potential by providing them with an opportunity for education, training, and support, both on and off the water.

FESTIVAL MISSION
An important goal of this festival is to promote whitewater sports– kayaking in particular– on the Nepalese and Himalayan sport scenes. In doing so, we also aim to inspire the continuing development of paddle- and adventure-sports in the rest of Asia, and promote an unprecedented legitimacy to their athletes.
