Bal K Joshi has more than15 years of experience in building internet-based businesses in the USA and in Nepal. He has dedicated his life in developing business models and technology platforms that facilitates managing cross-border relationships within transnational population. He graduated from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR, USA in 1995 and went back to launch Nepal’s first e-commerce company www.thamel.com.Thamel.com helps migrant workers send gifts and remittances to their friends and family through its portal. He is also a cofounder of Machpay. Machpay is a global payment processor changing the landscape of developing countries like Nepal to enable financial inclusion for digital economy. 

He has experience in designing, deploying and integrating payment gateways to facilitate new age digital remittances. His unique approach to remittances now widely popular as “productizing of remittances” has been documented by global think tank institutions like World Resource Institute and Inter American Development Bank. The company www.thamel.comhe co-founded in 2000 is considered as one of the best practices case studies in the areas of migration and productizing of remittances. It is also a subject of case study at academic institutions like Santa Clara University and George Washington University.
