Creative Storytelling: Transmedia Workshop
SO, WHAT’S ALL THIS “TRANSMEDIA” BUZZ ABOUT?
We tell stories.
Every day, people from all around the world create and share their stories. But, as Bob Dylan said The times, they are changing.
It’s a fact: Internet and the new technologies have changed the rules. Nowadays, storytellers face a huge creative challenge: how we could tell stories into a 24h/7days a week connected world, where stories could go global?
The answer is spreading fast through websites, producing companies and design studios, and its called TRANSMEDIA.
Transmedia is a new way of telling stories, using all kind of medias and platforms to create an interactive relation with the audience. It’s no longer only about “watching”,“reading” or “listening” films, books or music.
With a Transmedia, you’ll do that, but at the same time you are gonna choose how to consume the story, “surfing” from media to media, and the audience giving feedback and shaping the story itself.
If we use the potential of sources like music videos, animation, online videos, street art, documentaries, video games, etc we could create a new and highly creative storytelling experience.
We all have the potential to tell stories in a innovative way. Because it’s no longer about high budgets or expensive equipments but just about creative IDEAS connected in a creative way that wasn’t possible not very long ago.
2.GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
This workshop has two parallel goals
GOAL 1: STORYTELLING TOOLS
From traditional storytelling to “new” medias: internet, music videos, animation, social networks, documentaries, video games and street art
Using a non-academic approach, it could be a surprising and funny way to discover Transmedia projects from around the world.
We will try to understand why some music videos, video games, anime, documentaries, etc catch our attention. It’s a discovering process of its storytelling tools, its “hidden” architecture. Knowing that,we could use similar ways to tell our own stories.
GOAL 2: CREATE A TRANSMEDIA STORY
An step-by-step hands-on creating process of a Transmedia story.
Once we know the storytelling tools, we we’ll be able to create our Transmedia project. The participants will pitch their ideas, and one of these ideas will be the starting point for a Transmedia project that we will shape in this workshop.
WORKSHOP TARGET, WHO IS IT FOR?
Anyone who wants to learn how to tell a story in a creative way is highly welcomed: photographers, writers, journalists, community managers, illustrators, designers, etc Overall, the main goal is to give tools to creative people, tools that they could use to tell stories.
It doesn’t matter the age or the academic formation. Being creative, open-minded and willing to have fun and work are important but the most important thing is to have and idea that could be “transformed” into a story.
Every workshop’s participants has to explain us briefly one idea that could become a story, something that could be the seed for a Transmedia project. It’s no necessary to have a full development of this idea, but we need this idea in order to start the workshop.
Finally, there isn’t a lot of homework involved, but the commitment with the other participants to join forces is vital.
