The 1960s marks the turning point of modernism in Nepal, with trends from Europe being introduced to Nepal. Modernist trends embodied the ideas of artistic experimentation and innovation. However, while European Modernism modernism was an anti-establishment movement, modern art was embraced by and became the art establishment in Nepal. Due to this fundamental ideological difference, these two movements - while having significant aesthetic similarities - are conceptually opposed.
