The session to be facilitated by Ritika Lohia Poddar, International Know Your Child facilitator from The Art of Living Foundation.

Know Your Child (KYC) is a one day and two hour workshop for parents with children below the age of 12 years. This interactive workshop teaches the parents how to help their children to enhance creativity, improve focus & concentration in studies, be independent and responsible, communicate better, feel more free and natural & respond to stress in an emotionally healthy way.

The workshop is based on the fact that the viewpoint of a child is very different from that of an adult. A child's view is full of wonder, amazement and excitement, innocent mischief and simplicity. Then, as time goes by, the child slowly starts imbibing more and more of his / her environment, and begins to express ideas that he / she has acquired through observation. In the first few years, teachers and parents constitute a major portion of a child’s environment. Yet, there is a fundamental difference between the perspective of a child and that of an adult. Due to this fact, children often feel they are not understood, and parents feel frustrated as their children do not live up to their expectations. If this divide deepens, the quality of the relationship between parents and children can suffer, creating a lack of closeness among family members.

Know Your Child is one of many educational courses offered by the Art of Living Foundation. It is designed to help parents understand children better and thus improve the quality of family life dramatically. KYC does a root cause analysis of children’s behavioral patterns and equips the parents with the knowledge to help children blossom to their full potential. These inputs are also vital in preserving the beauty of the relationship as the child grows up & reaches first teenage and then adulthood.

*The following are some testimonials of participants:
“Workshop was interactive and practical. It was very useful.”
- Mr. Abdul Waheed Khan (Asst. Director General, UNESCO)

“When I heard of the Know Your Child Workshop, I was not expecting to learn new comprehensive material. Yet, I was completely blown away by the content of the course, as well as its teacher, who skillfully listened to parent’s concerns, and addresses each and every issue head on – with clarity, levity, and grace. Once I introduced my new ’ tools’ back home to my girls, age 2 and 5, the house has been filled with more harmony, less headaches, and more fun!”
– Julia Tang. M ed, Harvard University
