Ekadeshma International Short Film festival is scheduled to be conducted on November 11 to 13, 2016 at QFX Kumari Cinemas. Now in its fourth edition, Ekadeshma is a pioneering film festival in Nepal that showcases short films from around the world.   

The festival is now calling for entries and short films below 30 minutes (fiction, documentary, animation) are encouraged to apply. The criteria for films submissions are

a)      should be made after 2014,

b)      needs to be a Nepal premiere.

The accepted films will be categorized under ‘Films in Competition’ & ‘Non-Competitive films’. The films in competition category will be awarded with a trophy and a cash prize.

In the past three editions, Ekadeshma has showcased over 140 films from 60+ countries around the world.  Alongside the screenings, Ekadeshma has also been a successful venue for discourse on Nepali and International cinema, through various interaction and discussion sessions modeled for film makers, and film audiences. Throughout the three editions, Ekadeshma has been commended for creating an environment of access to the medium of cinema by connecting these film makers with their audiences and future collaborators.  

Ekadeshma is an annual short film festival, however, the festival could not be conducted last year owing to the devastation brought by the deadly earthquake.  Ekadeshma is back this year and the primary thematic focus for this year’s festival is ‘and life goes on’.

‘and life goes on", represents the Nepali spirit of never letting go and also, happens to be the title of one of the films of Abbas Kairostami, the film genius, Ekadeshma is paying tribute at this year’s festival. Kiarostami passed away this year, leaving behind cinema we can only aspire to make. Ekadeshma salutes the master, with films that inspire the spirit of perseverance and resilience in everyday life.
