The Story Telling will feature Kathak, Baratnatyam, and Nepali dances. It will be a feast to the senses as movement, rhythm and music come together in these various types of artistic expression.
KATHAK:
“Kathak” dance comes from the word kathak or story. Kathak is about footwork, movement, music and story telling. The body becomes an instrument to tell the story. There are bells wrapped around the ankles that answer to each step and movement. Through footwork, one plays with rhythm and music. Hand movements and subtle shifts of weight bring out a balance between grace and sharpness. Kathak is known as a North Indian Classical dance form.
DHIME:
Dhime is the name of a traditional Newari drum . The beats of the dhime largely dominate Newari music, be it the lively beats of their folk tune or the mystic sounds of their traditional temple dances. Dhime carries the culture, history and heritage of the Kathmandu valley. The beats of Dhime has inspired this fusion of: ghuna na ghu na ghu nana na kho ta t, which is a traditional pattern played during the Marta's or festivals in the Kathmandu valley, along with a blend of classical music patterns.
Jhimbe has been incorporated to add further rhythm and the guitar is the main instrument used for melody. The fusion is further lifted by vocal patterns lifted from the classical Tarana. This combination is the first of its kind.
